Worst Dentist Visit, Ever.

Latest Q&A

Jen shares what she considers to be her worst ever trip to the dentist. If you think your visit was bad, this may change your mind!

I have never been a fan of seeing the dentist. Starting when I was 12, mom let them start sedating me at visits. I wasn’t a fan of that either but it did make the visits easier. Mom got so she didn’t tell me ahead about visits because she didn’t want to hear the complaining about it coming. She would just show up at school and take me to the dentist without much warning at all. That, led to the worst visit ever.

One day, mom forgot my appointment.

The end result was her realizing when it was almost too late that I had a dentist appointment. She raced to school to grab me and get me there on time. But… we were doing swim unit in gym class. She got to the school and had me called to the office. I didn’t know it was mom and for the dentist. I had just got changed but wasn’t even in the water yet, so my teacher said just go check quick before you get into the pool.

I end up at the office wearing my suit and mom saying its time to go. Because shes late already she says there isn’t time to go change first. And I’m dry, so just get going so we get there on time.

Maybe moms don’t think its weird to go to the dentist wearing your swimsuit, but I sure did!

So one the car ride, there I am just in my swimsuit. And I’m complaining at mom about it. But I also know that chances are I’m about to be gassed and be asleep for a while. So I’m even more worried about that part. And about trying to act normal once I’m there in my suit.

When we got there I was pretty quiet form feeling shy. There were a few other people in the waiting room and they all looked. The lady at the desk did a double take too and mom explained why I was in my swimsuit. She smiled at me and asked if I was feeling pretty shy to be dressed like that. All I could manage was a nod.

She said don’t worry, you’re going to be asleep in a few minutes and you won’t be feeling shy at all once you’re in dream land.

Having her tell me point blank I was going to be knocked out in a swimsuit felt super weird.

To be clear, knowing I was going to be put to sleep and being exposed in a swimsuit was plenty enough to make my body react to all those nervous feelings. I was nipply and I could feel myself getting nervous wet down below. I didn’t want any of that to happen but its a feedback loop. Once it starts knowing that its showing only makes it happen more.

I was only in the waiting room a few minutes before they took me back. The dental assistant said I’d be more comfy waiting in a chair. And I was, no one was staring there. I just sat and waited. I was doing the clenching thing that I always did when I was in the knock out chair. But of course instead of jeans to hide it… I was in a suit. Good thing the chair was vinyl.

When the dentist came in he smiled and said “hey swimmer”. And of course I had this stupid grin on my face from him trying to make a joke of it. He sat down and was friendly like always. He asked me if the suit felt pretty tight? Yes. And pretty exposed? Nod. And then he says I know this feels like the most embarrassing thing ever, but is isn’t. You’re pretty and smart and you look great like this. Everyone that looked at you was thinking that they wished they were brave enough to wear a swimsuit to the dentist. So stop worrying, just pretend like you planned it and you’re braver than all of them.

And he says I’m going to put you to sleep but we need to talk about waking up. You’re still going to be in your swimsuit and you won’t understand why when you first wakeup. There is a good chance you will do some silly stuff as you try to figure it out. I will be right here to make sure you’re safe and I promise I won’t tell anyone if you act silly. Deal? Nod.

And then the gas mask went on. And for the first time I took nice deep breaths to make it happen fast. I was wet and nipply and just wanted to be knocked out to end it! I felt tired and then melted away into the darkness of sleep.

I did do some silly things when I woke up. And he never told.

And next time, mom made sure to remember the appointment so I could be in real clothes!
