Claire is the name we have given to protect this readers identity. Claire is located in Poland. She is 19.
I’m six months pregnant and everyone can see my tummy. In three more months I will go to the hospital and have a baby that I do not want.
Last fall when I arrived at university I was invited to a party. I went to meet new people and get used to my new school. I started talked to a cute boy. He seemed nice. After a while he offered to get me a drink. I trusted him.
Once I had the drink I felt very relaxed and without worries. He encouraged me and I felt like I wanted to have sexual intercourse with him. I think there was a drug in the drink that made it easier for me to do as he suggested.
He did not use a condom and I was not taking birth control. I fell asleep after and woke up in the morning at the house where the party had been. I went back to my dormitory.
My period did not start when it should have. A few weeks later I took a pregnancy test and it was positive for pregnancy.
I went to the doctor. He checked my body and tested for pregnancy. He also performed an ultrasound examination to confirm that I am pregnant.
He asked how I got pregnant and I told him about the party. He asked if the boy had forced me to have sexual relations. I told him that I had felt like I wanted it at the time. The doctor wrote down that I consented to sexual activity.
I have been taking vitamins and eating healthy so that nothing will be wrong with the baby. I wanted to have an abortion but it is not allowed because the doctor wrote down that I was not raped.
As I write I can feel the baby moving inside my body. I will have to deliver the baby at the local hospital. I have not decided if I will keep the baby or give it up for adoption. Everyone says it is my duty to be a mother to the child.
In Poland abortion is illegal except in certain circumstances. While rape is a reason to have a abortion, once Claire’s doctor determined she was not raped she became subject to mandatory delivery. She is expected to have her baby in May 2024.
