Thanks for the question Jasmine. As a resident of North Dakota you are legally required to deliver your baby. The law in your state outlaws abortion except in case of a threat to your life.
While it is mandatory for you to deliver you have some options. If you don’t feel ready for a baby you can chose adoption. In this way your baby can be placed with someone else in your family or with a new family and you are not responsible to be its parent.
Or, you can chose to keep your baby and be a mom.
You may travel to a different state or to Canada for an abortion. If you do that you will be breaking North Dakota law and could be punished once you return home. We recommend you either seek legal advice or follow the law to avoid prosecution.
We don’t like that the state has made the decision for you either. But at least at the moment they have the legal right to compel you to stay pregnant and deliver. Leave a comment with other questions.
And congratulations! We know you didn’t plan it this way but you’ll be a mom soon. You’re going to be an amazing mom.
